President’s Corner – January 2021 – New Year, New Viera!

I know it’s been a while since you heard from me and, for that, I apologize.  I’ve had some staff changes, a promotion, and let’s not forget all the COVID stuff!  But, I hope to kick off the new year on the right track and keep this ball rolling all year.

We have all been witness to the changes in Viera over the last couple of years, and there have been a lot.  Viera continues to grow and expand into new areas, which is probably not going to slow down any time soon.  In case you haven’t heard, Viera just jumped up in the national ranking for growth in master-planned communities.  Our home sales took a 45% leap and Viera jumped from #22 in 2019 to #16 in 2020.  We also rank #5 in the state of Florida.  So, if there is one thing that you can expect in the future, it more change, more growth, and just … more.  I realize that this gives some people chills; however, this was always the plan.  Sometimes the plan moves faster and sometimes it moves slower, but, it is always moving toward the goal of build-out.

A very common subject that people like to talk to me about is roads!  What, when, where, and why?  And, it probably came as great news to everyone when we were able to announce in December the opening of the Lake Andrew Drive extension that goes behind the high school up to Viera Boulevard.  I have already heard from many people about how much this makes travel in Viera so much easier and efficient.  And, of course we can’t miss talking about the extension of Lake Andrew Drive to the south to Pineda Causeway and those improvements.  This will be open within the next couple of months.  I know many are anxiously awaiting an ingress/egress to I-95 south of Wickham Road.  (Yay!)  Both of these projects greatly expand the travel options within and around Viera, not to mention the new businesses it will attract to our area.

With all of these changes, what I am probably most excited about are the new amenities and projects we are working on for the parks.  I hope everyone has been enjoying the food truck nights at CVCA parks and hopefully we can expand locations and frequency in the future.  In the spring of 2021, we will see the opening of a new park in Viera in the Sendero Cove neighborhood called La Roca Park.  This park will have some activities you have never seen before in Viera such as an outdoor hockey rick, a rock climbing play structure, and cornhole boards.  And, for the opening of the park, we are going to have a community contest to select 4 people/families to paint them!!  Details of the contest and the form to submit your entry can be found on the CVCA webpage (here) and we will also be pushing out the information on social media.  I can’t wait to see the designs submitted!!

And, finally, I know many of you have reached out to me to discuss the possibility of creating community gardens in Viera.  Well, the answer is …. yes!  We are currently working on identifying the best locations and the procedures that will need to be in place regarding use of the gardens.  I will write more about this in a future post but I couldn’t wait to tell you about what we are working on!

So, until next time, please remember … “you are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” (C.S. Lewis)
