Love Where You Live: Kids Edition
February is always a month filled with reminders to slow down and show gratitude for the people and places we love. While we’ve shared many Love Where You Live articles over the years, this is my first time sharing my own perspective: why I love Viera as the mom of a toddler.
Anyone raising a toddler knows how much energy those tiny humans hold! Moving to Viera from Salt Lake City when my son was five months old meant trading long winters for sunshine, and that simple change has made all the difference. Personally, I don’t miss bundling up in three layers of clothes just to go for a walk around the neighborhood. Being able to get outside year-round has shaped how we explore, play, and experience life together.
Parks, Trails, and Everyday Adventures
If you’ve ever tried to tire out a toddler, you know how valuable great outdoor spaces are. Luckily, there is no shortage of that here in Viera. From neighborhood parks to scenic trails, there’s always somewhere to explore.
A few of our favorite parks to visit are North Solerno, La Roca, and Prado Vista. But the adventure doesn’t stop at the playground; the extensive trail systems woven through our neighborhoods are perfect for scooter practice, family bike rides, and nature walks. We love turning a simple stroll into a game of “wildlife eye spy” where we count how many ducks, turtles, squirrels, geckos, sandhill cranes we can spot along the way (and keeping a safe eye out for the occasional gator in the ponds). There are not many places in the US where you can see such active wildlife in your neighborhood.
Schools and Childcare You Can Feel Good About
As a parent, peace of mind matters, and Viera delivers that in a big way. One of the main reasons we chose to settle here in Brevard County was the community’s reputation for excellence in education. From A-rated public schools like Viera Elementary to highly regarded centers like Viera Children’s Academy and The Goddard School, there is a standard of care here that is hard to beat.
Even if your little ones aren’t school-age yet, there is a certain comfort in knowing that quality options, including specialized STEAM programs and VPK opportunities are offered for that next stage. We hear the expression “it takes a village” all the time, and that is so true. I feel lucky that our “village” values education as much as we do.
Close to Everything That Matters
Beyond the schools and community support, the sheer convenience of Viera is a huge part of why it works so well for families. We’ve found that almost everything we need, from grocery stores to our favorite restaurants, it’s all just a short drive (or golf cart ride!) away.
When we’re looking for a fun outing, we can easily stroll through The Avenue Viera or head over to the Brevard Zoo. As proud zoo members, it’s one of our absolute favorite spots to spend a morning. And on those days when we all need a little extra “zen,” the beach is just 15-20 drive, perfect for a quick sunset walk or a morning seashell scavenger hunt.
Community Events That Bring Everyone Together
One of my favorite parts of raising a child in Viera is the sense of belonging. Here, community events aren’t just dates on a calendar; they are woven into the fabric of our daily lives. Whether it’s exploring the First Friday pop-up markets to support local vendors or cheering during our neighborhood golf cart parades, there is always something to look forward to.
Between the fairs at Space Coast Daily Park and CVCA events like the upcoming Camp Out (March7-8th), Very Merry Viera, and School’s Out, our weekends stay packed with fun things to do. Plus, the upcoming Viera Town Center Food Truck Park will soon offer a new go-to spot for families to grab a bite and let the kids play, with more events being hosted at the amphitheater. These moments are about more than just fun, they’re where we meet people within the community, build friendships, and create lasting memories with our families.
Clean, Well-Cared-For Neighborhoods
Clean streets, beautifully upkept neighborhoods, and thoughtfully designed public spaces might not sound “exciting” on paper, but as a parent, they matter more than I ever imagined. Viera’s attention to detail creates an environment that feels safe, welcoming, and intentionally cared for.
Whether it’s a stroll to the park or a quick bike ride, there’s a distinct peace of mind that comes from knowing the area my child is growing up in is held to a high standard. In a busy world, coming home to a neighborhood that truly feels like home.
Loving Where We’re Raising Our Kids
“Love Where You Live” means something different now that I’m a mom. It means loving the place my child is learning, growing, and discovering the world. It means feeling grateful for a community that supports families, encourages connection, and makes everyday life a little easier (and a lot more fun). It’s not often that you find a place that feels so intentionally built with families in mind, but in Viera, that’s exactly what makes it feel like home.
