What is a Big Year?
You may have heard of a “Big Year” or even seen the movie “A Big Year” and if so, you already have a great understanding of what “Viera’s Big Year” is all about. If you are among the many who do not know what a “Big Year” is, it is typically a yearlong bird spotting challenge among birders with the goal of identifying and documenting as many bird species as possible. There are several variations of a “Big Year” such county wide, statewide, and even nationwide. There are also competitions that run one day or from one location. No matter how you go birding, it is a wonderful hobby that is entertaining, inexpensive, and educational.
